ANXIETY
Do you struggle with feelings of self-doubt?
Do you often have judgmental and critical thoughts about yourself?
Do you go to the worst case scenario when something troubling happens?
Do you worry excessively?
Living with anxiety can be incredibly stressful and painful. It can feel excruciating to be in a state of worry and panic. Anxiety can come in many forms. Perhaps you feel it at baseline. Maybe it arises only when something distressing comes your way and you spiral. Sometimes it can live with you and it can feel like like there is no relief.
Anxiety is extremely common and can be functional at times. However, if you tend to be a really tough on yourself, put yourself down or the anxiety is getting in the way of functioning and making decisions, it is important to seek help.
How therapy can help treat anxiety
Therapy is extremely useful in treating and managing anxiety. Isolation and feeling alone can compound anxiety. I work collaboratively with my patients and without judgement to help ease your pain and create some relief around your anxiety. My goal is to help understand the source of your anxiety, your triggers and develop coping skills. I use a variety of methods to treat anxiety. These methods include countering negative thoughts, mindfulness, creating deeper self-awareness and developing compassion for yourself during difficult times. If you are on medication, I can collaborate with your medical provider. If you are thinking about starting medication, I can help talk you through your thoughts, feelings or fears about starting that process.
How long does it take to feel better?
Everyone is unique in how quickly they respond to therapy. Some people feel relief soon while for others it may take some time. It also depends on the kind of anxiety you are having, how long you have felt anxious, your mind set and attitude. It takes time to learn about the underlying factors contributing to anxiety but it is critical to healing.
It is important to remember that speaking with a professional and realizing you are not alone are powerful ways to improve an anxious state.
